Meet Our Donors

On behalf of the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, we would like to thank all of our current donors for their generosity and support. Here are some of their stories.

Robert and Dorothy Phelps of Evanston, Illinois

We decided to establish a charitable gift annuity with ISI to take advantage of the tax benefits and guaranteed income stream and to contribute to the important work done by ISI to combat the pernicious effects of campus liberalism.

Laurence and Eleanor Johnson, Fallbrook, California

We don't have a lot to give ISI regularly, but we wanted to do something to preserve the ideals upon which our country was founded. The charitable remainder annuity trust (CRAT) is a great alternative for highly appreciated assets. A planned gift doesn't mean you're wealthy - but instead of turning everything over to the government, you can make a real difference. The fixed income we receive from a CRAT has allowed us to "quasi-retire."

Neil Noble, ISI Weaver Fellow and financial planner, Phoenix, AZ

ISI and the foundations of liberty have been important to Neil Noble since his undergraduate years at Arizona State University where he was president of ASU's Young Americans for Freedom.

In graduate school, Noble received a Richard M. Weaver Graduate Fellowship from the Intercollegiate Studies Insitute. Noble feels that "it all starts with education. We need to build an elite force of educated people who understand liberty." Neil Noble received that 'education in liberty' with the help of an ISI fellowship - we continue to provide this award to future educators who are motivated by the need to integrate the idea of liberal education with their teaching efforts, and in doing so, to restore to university studies ther distinction and worth.

Bob and Peggy Eskridge

Our relationship with ISI began when we received a copy of a publication they produced highlighting a major academic and donor controversy at our alma mater, Yale University. That news was astonishing to us as Yale was a very special place for our family. We soon realized what had seemed impossible was indeed true when an ISI staff member visited us at our Florida home. We were amply convinced, to the degree that we established a charitable remainder trust for ISI and promptly removed Yale and other schools from our wills, redirecting our modest philanthropies to ISI.

We prefer ISI for there is a multiplier effect due to its presence at colleges and universities all over the country.

Bill and Peggy Stott of St. Michaels, Maryland:

"We believe that ISI is an organization that has integrity of commitment to the liberal arts. We've been reading ISI's stuff for thirty or forty years. It's very relevant.....ISI is a mirror image of our aspirations."
